Community groups and small businesses urged to ask for assistance - 21/1/2011
Brisbane City Council urges community groups and small businesses that need volunteer assistance to contact Council as soon as possible.
Council will continue to task volunteer groups with requests for assistance from community groups and businesses in the short-term, so is encouraging them to report their needs as quickly as possible.
Requests can be made by phoning Council’s Contact Centre on 3403 8888.
Volunteer groups can still register to help by phoning the Contact Centre.
Urgent Flood Assistance for Businesses - CCIQ
In recognition of the extent of businesses that have been impacted by the QLD flood crisis, CCIQ is providing a complimentary 30 day membership for anyone affected by the floods. This will provide you with access to their member only Employer Assistance Line and an overview of what your obligations are as an employer facing these situations.

HelpOut offers a simple way for Brisbane Local Communities to help themselves
With the goal of making it easier for flood affected communities to help themselves, we have created a
Free online service called HelpOut. This service is aimed primarily at people living and working in the local community.

This premises is suited to a business that requires a small warehouse and office operation and has been offered for two months rent free. Email us at

Official Clean-Up Volunteering
Details for those people that wish to volunteer and help with the recovery efforts on Saturday, 15th January and Sunday, 16th January. Document includes locations of fully staffed registration centres.
Floods Fact Sheet - Volunteering
This fact sheet contains information about how you can help other people in the flood recovery effort and how to be most effective. By following these steps you will be helping to support the work of Council and other authorities during the clean-up.

Plant and Equipment Services
Owners of plant and equipment who can offer their services should email their contact details through to lordmayor@brisbane.qld.gov.au or contact Council on 07 3403 8888.
List of Brisbane streets that have and will be affected by flooding this week provided by the Brisbane City Council.
Council also advises that more streets may be added to this list as Council continues to monitor the situation across the city. Residents and visitors are warned to stay away from floodwaters and stormwater drains following heavy rainfall. Floodwaters can be fast moving and contain hidden debris. Motorists are advised to obey road closure signs and find alternative routes, and not to attempt to cross or drive through flooded roads under any circumstances. Stormwater drains are also dangerous during and after heavy rainfall and should be avoided
The Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP) has been activated to assist people who have been adversely affected by the flooding that began in November affecting Queensland. If you or someone you know has been affected by this disaster you should speak to Centrelink as soon as possible to arrange assistance.
